Using AI Responsibly for Climate Change

This project examines how artificial intelligence can be used not just to optimize or forecast environmental outcomes, but to rethink humanity’s connection with the planet. It considers the ethical, social, and ecological effects of deploying AI in climate mitigation and adaptation, from carbon monitoring to environmental modeling, and questions whether current governance systems can ensure justice for both human and more-than-human systems.

Building on the frameworks of Vinuesa et al. (2019), Galaz et al. (2020), and Kaack et al. (2022), the proposal advocates for an AI ethics of stewardship, grounded in transparency, accountability, and relational care. It contends that technology, like humanity, must learn to operate within planetary boundaries and moral responsibility as an ally in regeneration, not as a tool of extraction.
